Queens County Farm Museum (QCFM) is one of the longest continuously farmed sites in New York State, dating back to 1697. A designated New York City Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, QCFM welcomes over 500,000 visitors annually. The farm connects people to agriculture, colonial history, and the environment, offering diverse learning opportunities in biodiversity, health and wellness, climate change, and historic preservation. QCFM’s vibrant 47-acre site includes historic buildings like the Adriance Farmhouse (c.1772) and a Greenhouse (c.1926), alongside growing fields, animal paddocks, composting areas, and an apiary. The farm also operates a year-round Farm Store and seasonal farmstands while hosting acclaimed education programs, public events, and adult education initiatives.
Position Description
The Queens County Farm Museum seeks a talented and organized Events Manager to oversee its dynamic public events calendar. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a key member of QCFM’s leadership team, the Events Manager will collaborate closely with Senior Staff to design and deliver engaging experiences that celebrate the farm’s rich cultural heritage, agricultural traditions, and commitment to environmental stewardship This position plays a vital role in driving visitation, fostering community connections, and supporting QCFM’s mission through meaningful, mission-aligned events.
Responsibilities:
- Event Calendar Management
- Plan, produce, and execute QCFM’s annual calendar of public events, including live and virtual programs.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and internal departments (Education, Agriculture, Visitor Services, and Operations) to align events with QCFM’s mission and organizational goals.
- Vendor & Partner Management
- Lead vendor selection, negotiation, and management (e.g., entertainment, artists, food and beverage, security, rentals).
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external parties to ensure successful event execution.
- Team Leadership & Staffing
- Hire, train, and oversee temporary, seasonal event staff.
- Ensure events are adequately staffed to deliver exceptional visitor experiences.
- Empower team members to provide excellent customer service.
- Budgeting & Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage public event budgets, ensuring income goals are met or exceeded.
- Set event pricing in collaboration with leadership, considering cost structures and market
trends. - Oversee timely payment of invoices and financial reporting.
- Marketing & Communications
- Collaborate with QCFM’s creative team to design event signage and marketing materials.
- Manage the ticket sales platform to ensure clear attendee communication and accurate revenue tracking.
- Respond to ticket inquiries and resolve refund or transfer issues.
- Visitor Experience & Operations
- Address visitor inquiries, problems, and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Ensure all staff and vendors adhere to QCFM’s policies and standards.
- Event Innovation
- Stay informed on event technology and best practices, integrating innovative ideas to enhance QCFM’s offerings.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Support other QCFM programs, including education and agricultural initiatives.
- Perform light office admin duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned to advance QCFM’s mission.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven experience in event planning and production, ideally within a nonprofit or cultural institution.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a talent for building and maintaining relationships.
- Budget management experience, including forecasting and reporting.
- Proficiency in ticketing platforms and event management software.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the event schedule.
- Passion for community engagement, agriculture, history, and sustainability is highly desirable.
Skills & Experience
- Experience with large-scale event production, including logistics, operations, and on-site management of event teams and vendors.
- Familiarity with event permitting processes, including working with local authorities and vendors to meet compliance requirements.
- Strong proficiency with event management software, ticketing platforms, and CRM tools (e.g., Ticketspice, Monday, Asana).
- Exceptional organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with post-event reporting and evaluation, including ROI analysis and attendee feedback collection
Workplace Conditions & Environment
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays as necessary.
Hours & Compensation:
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position requiring 35 hours per week. The schedule is
flexible, with occasional weekend work as needed.
Hourly rate: $23 – $28/hr, commensurate with experience.
