Bee-A-Pollinator: Earth Day Service Day

April 22 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Get outside and protect the planet at Queens Farm’s volunteer service day marking the 54th anniversary of Earth Day! Earth Day was introduced in Spring 1970 as a way of bringing national attention to environmental protection issues, and has had widespread impact. Recognition of Earth Day has reshaped awareness of how we interact with our environment and affected critical environmental protection legislation.

Queens Farm connects visitors to agriculture and the environment through the lens of its 47-acre historic site, providing learning opportunities and creating conversations about biodiversity, nutrition, health and wellness, climate change and preserving local history. Help us steward this historic farmland with an afternoon of outdoor activities highlighting simple ways you can give back to the farm and our planet. Queens Farm practices regenerative agriculture and welcomes community food scraps for composting year-round. Every day is Earth Day at Queens Farm!

Some examples of tasks that volunteers may assist with:

– Spring cleaning in the Children’s Garden
– Trash Flash Mob (farm-wide cleanup)
– Garden bed prep
– Sifting compost
– Mulching trails & paths
– Rock removal in support of our agricultural expansion

Enjoy sustainability-themed activities like:

– Reduce, Reuse, Recycle book swap
– Eco Scavenger Hunt
– Apiary talks
– Con Edison Reading Room with printed printed resources on agriculture, gardening, cooking, environmental science, history and more!

Add to the fun with tractor- drawn hayrides and enjoy free giveaways.
It’s a day of service, learning and fun!
